August 5th, 2010 by

Here are some highlights of what we’ve been reading this past week—some great posts on organic search optimization and social media marketing.

1. Trial and Error with Adwords and SEO – The NY Times’ “You’re the Boss” blog describes how Catherine Wood Hill, co-founder of La Grande Dame retailer, found that a more organic, content-based approach to SEO reaped much greater dividends than paid search tactics. Written by Adriana Gardella, the post also describes the success La Grande Dame has seen coming from its investment in social media marketing.

2. What Your Company’s Twitter Account Says about You – This quick read is spot on in its assessment of four contrasting Twitter approaches that, for better or worse, can say a lot about a company. See what to avoid.

3. Turning Helpfulness into Marketing Greatness – Convince and Convert’s five ways to think about helping more than simply selling aren’t rocket science. But Jay Baer’s post reminds us that helping and selling don’t have to be mutually exclusive aims—and then gives great examples of how that comes together. It’s about thought leadership. As we always say, don’t just talk about your products. Think about your customers’ (and potential customers’) needs and how they can benefit from your expertise.
